Great Way For Media & Docs On The Go

Tyrone Beiron

We buy larger storage iOS devices mainly because of our media files, those we buy and those we create, and sooner or later, 64GB even isn't enough! I decided to buy a 16GB iPad Mini and got the Seagate Wireless 1TB, plus some conversion software, and put all my travel photos (full frame high res), plus HD movies, plus converted VOB movies (used Smart Converter Pro from their website, not App Store, due to added features), and within six minutes got everything set up and ready to go on both iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini. Just make sure you have Internet wifi available, and have formatted all media into correct Apple readable files, and in respective folders first. Now, I can remove all my media files from iTunes library, which will allow my 256GB SDD MacBook Pro 2012 o reclaim more space for other programs. This way, you can minimize iOS and OSX device memory and use this HDD. Also, purchased iTunes movie files are read via the browser, so you will need Internet connection. Worked brilliantly and easily enough for non-geeks, but follow the set-up sequence strictly to accomplish this. Allow time for the HDD Metadata library to build up too. One product which greatly complimented my iOS devices, and freed up its internal space. Now, HD media files aren't a problem anymore!

A Great Disapppoinment

I'm using this app on my iPad Air iOS 8.3 to connect to the Seagate Wireless 2TB. I'm able to connect to the device but it took ages to get the folders to appear on the app and it only lasted for a few minutes before got disconnected and asked me to reconnect. Then, again after get it connected, in a few minutes time, got disconnected, and this thing kept on repeating. So far, I have not been able to get this device to connect to a wireless network. Again, it took ages to get the wireless network names to appear and when it finally did, any attempts to connect to one of them would cause all of them to disappear again and I had to wait, again, for ages for them to reappear, and this thing repeated. At the end, like any other ordinary external hard disk, the only way this device could make itself useful is to have it attached directly to a computer. I tempted to give it a 3-star but considering its price, it has to settle for just 2.

WiFi connection does NOT work

It works nicely when connected via USB cable to my Windows 7 running PC.
However it is a nightmare when connecting via WiFi to iPad 3.3

The App on the iPad just can not find the data. Either it goes for whatever I click above (e.g. Documents, Videos, Folder View etc) just to "Local Content", or finds no data at all. Another times, after several restarts and hardware resets, it finds the directories, but finds them with "No data available", what is not true. WiFi connection looks ok.
Sometimes it "works" if I press the hardware reset bottom on the Goflexsatellite, sometimes I have the impression that I have to reinstall the Firmware with every file change I make, just to see them in Goflex Media.

Overall an absolutely unsatisfying and frustrating experience!

It takes me abt 1/2 hour of trial at every change of data on the Goflex Satellite (restarts, firmware reinstall, etc) to be so lucky to see the new data on Goflex Media. Reinstallation of Goflex Media brought no change, so the culprit must be within the device of Seagate itself (firmware or hardware)
With both, iPad and Satellite updated to OS6, still the same problem
