Daryl Hall & John Oates: Influences

Daryl Hall & John Oates' sumptuous harmonies and plain-spoken lyrics have been hugely inspired by R&B—particularly the richly appointed soul of fellow Philadelphians like The Delfonics and The Stylistics—but they drew on other titans as well. The maximalist hooks of their early producer Todd Rundgren and the intricate songwriting of Carole King also informed the duo's sharp, pointed pop.
