Elevators Live! (1968)

Elevators Live! (1968)

After a failed attempt to record a live album by the Austin psychedelic rockers, the band’s label did something that probably made sense in 1968: added applause and crowd noise to a set of studio outtakes. Thankfully, the scheme was no crazier than any other twist in the 13th Floor Elevators’ strange saga. A mind-bending alternate take of “Roller Coaster” and a bruising cover of Solomon Burke’s “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” give Elevators Live! a power that far surpasses its dubious origins.
