Esta de Moda

Years of perfecting a horn-laden and piano-heavy approach paid off on this splashy major-label debut from the Puerto Rican band. Erasing Latin pop boundaries, the quartet looks beyond traditional merengue, coaxing accordions out the door, slipping drum machines and soft jazz saxophone inside and even dropping a quick rap verse onto “Traigo Algo Bueno”. But the lads still stay true to Dominican tradition, never venturing far from reliable conga-driven rhythms, whether on a dreamy cut like “La Condena” or the club-ready “Linda Eh”.
