Album Review

Le Swing is what this album is all about. Swing is the word to describe the way the hips sway when people dance in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Haiti. It is magical to dance to and even to observe. The dancers seem to merge with each other and with the palms blown by the alize or trade winds. It is also the part in a zouk song that is an accentuated instrumental stretching out, urging dancers on to greater bliss and proximity. On this outing, Eric Brouta delivers plenty of solid swing aimed at the hips and feet. His variation of tempos and melodies on the tracks avoids sounding repetitious, along with his use of minor keys. His voice also seems to get more throaty and sensual with each album. As on his other albums, the percussion is available in many flavors and seems to be in every instrument, whether they are horns or keyboards. Much of the percussion is programmed, but done with freshness and creativity. Some people would term it overproduced. Over or under, this is bedrock zouk that moves dancers and lifts spirits. It is simply music that makes people happy. Highly recommended.
