Album Review

Reissued from the original 1989 recording, Segments features three of the finest modern jazz musicians: pianist Geri Allen, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Paul Motian. At the time, the trio performed and recorded frequently, and the collaborative energy they shared is palpable on this album. Along with original pieces, they perform smart, unique versions of Ornette Coleman's "Law Years," Charlie Parker's "Marmaduke," and "Segment," along with the standards "I'm All Smiles" and "You'll Never Know."
