Apocalypso

As the world got to know Australian dance-rock, The Presets sealed their reputation internationally with this giddy, electro-leaning second album. Julian Hamilton’s Gary Numan-esque vocals sit high and snide in the mix, holding forth over the pulsing hothouse atmosphere, while standouts such as “Talk Like That” are guaranteed to animate anyone in earshot. Then on “My People” and “Eucalyptus”—both inspired by the detainment of international refugees—the Sydney duo complicate all that party-starting with a keen political edge.
