- The Spanish band found inspiration in classic rock and metal.
- Even on their 1981 debut Prepárate, Madrid’s heavy metal greats Obús were exploring beyond the groove of their beloved Judas Priest. That drive continues on later tracks like the grungey “Un Reflejo en el Cristal” and the boogie rhythm of “Cállate!” But they never stray far from the stomping sound of Spanish steel, and glorious shout-along hooks—of which “Hermano Americano” is a prime example.

About Obús
Spanish heavy metallers Obús were formed in 1980 by guitarist Francisco Laguna and bassist Juan Luis Serrano, joined by drummer Manolo Cano (later replaced by Fernando Sanchez). With Fortu Sanchez as lead vocalist, Obús signed with Chapa Discos and recorded Preparate. They issued Poderoso Como el Trueno in 1982 and El Que Mas in 1984. After touring South America, Obús recorded 1985's Pega con Fuerza, featuring the hit "Te Visitara la Muerte." The group broke up soon after releasing 1990's Otra Vez en la Ruta, but re-formed in 1996 and issued Desde el Fondo del Abismo in 2000. Segundos Fuera arrived in 2003, and in 2012 Obús celebrated the 30th anniversary of their recording debut with the live CD/DVD set De Madrid al Infierno. ~ Drago Bonacich
