About Regurgitator

One of the most self-aware bands to emerge from Australia’s alt-rock boom, Brisbane trio Regurgitator happily skewer the absurdities of the music business, as heard on sellout anthem “I Sucked a Lot of Cock to Get Where I Am” and the trolling “I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff”. Since forming in 1993, the trio have delivered sardonic commentary via a revolving door of distinct modes, with frontman Quan Yeomans leading the prankish proceedings. Observe the faux-rap-rock of “Kong Foo Sing” and electro bubblegum of “Polyester Girl”—plus the Prince pastiche “! (The Song Formerly Known As).” Even after 1997’s Unit won five ARIA awards and went double-platinum at home, Regurgitator still felt like brazen gate-crashers of the establishment. The band’s chameleonic dynamics have since yielded more genre tourism—often transmitted in one- or two-minute bursts, evoking some particularly wild channel-surfing—and an unlikely children’s album in 2019.
