Super Mr. Marvelous

About Super Mr. Marvelous

Although his time in the industry was brief, New Kids on the Block associate Super Mr. Marvelous managed to release one rap record in the mid-'90s. Whether the influence of friend and producer Donnie Wahlberg had any effect on his career is questionable, but after the two met, Wahlberg became enthused by the prospect of producing Marvelous' first record, perhaps to further separate himself from the disastrous reception to the New Kids' Face the Music. The two put together Pho-Net-Ic in 1996, releasing the bass-heavy album in the fall of that year. Despite a minor club hit with "Drop the Top," the album bombed and Marvelous disappeared soon after. While many had written him off, it took another New Kid to bring him back into the music scene a few years later when Joe McIntyre contacted Marvelous about contributing a rap to the track "We Can Get Down." The two recorded together in the summer of 1999 and the song made it to McIntyre's Stay the Same album, but no further music came from Marvelous, who appears to be out of the music industry. ~ Bradley Torreano
