They Shoot Horses Don't They

About They Shoot Horses Don't They

With a lineup that changes from six to nine pieces, Vancouver's They Shoot Horses Don't They combine elements of punk, circus music, experimental rock, and jazz in their free-form, sometimes riotous instrumental expression. Formed by singer/guitarist Nut Brown and bassist Julia in 2003, TSHDT quickly added saxophonist Ryan and trombonist Pietro to the mix, as well as bassist Robb and keyboardist Chris (other members have included bari saxophonist Shane Krause, trumpeter Eli Bornowsky, and tuba player Nathan Gage), and self-released their self-titled four-song album in 2005. American avant rock label Kill Rock Stars picked up on the band and signed it, issuing Boo Hoo Boo Hoo in 2006, with Pick Up Sticks following in 2007. ~ Marisa Brown
