Turtle Island String Quartet

About Turtle Island String Quartet

Formed in 1985, the Turtle Island String Quartet were emblematic of the blurring of boundaries between rock, pop, jazz, and classical music that took hold during the late '80s and early '90s. Their 1989 album, METROPOLIS, contained "Julie-O" which has become a staple of the modern cello repertoire. In the summer of '93 the band were awarded a residency at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, which produced the eclectic jazz-oriented set WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Their '05 album was awarded a Grammy for Best Classical Crossover.
