INTRODUCTION Malnutrition remains a factor in 60% of 11 million deaths of children aged less than five years globally each year. It is the most important risk factor for the burden of disease in developing countries (1), causing long-term detrimental consequences, such as impaired cognitive development, growth impairment, and poor academic performance (2).
