Veći broj njegovih satiričnih dela inspirisan je društveno-političkim prilikama i stanjem, a pripovedački zaodenut u naoko naivno i jednostavno pričanje događaja koji kao da nemaju bliže veze sa predmetom na koji je usmerena satiričarska oštrica i žaoka.
U jednoj staroj knjizi čitao sam čudnu priču; a vrag bi ga znao otkud meni ta knjiga iz nekog smešnog vremena, u kome je bilo mnogo slobodoumnih zakona, a nimalo slobode; držali se govori i pisale knjige ο privredi, a niko ništa nije sejao; cela zemlja pretrpana moralnim poukama, a morala nije bilo; u svakoj kući pun tavan logika, ali pameti nije bilo; na svakom koraku govorilo se ο štednji i blagostanju zemlje, a rasipalo se na sve strane, a svaki zelenaš i nitkov mogao je sebi kupiti za nekoliko groša titulu: veliki narodni rodoljub.
