In 2007, Jamie T became the laureate of lairy London. His debut album is a grimy Bayeux Tapestry of a standard night out in the capital, populated by revellers and wrong'uns alike. Panic Prevention also spans the city's diverse sounds, from hip-hop to Thamesbeat and skiffle. “Pacemaker” and “Dry Off Your Cheeks” sputter on menacingly blown-out beats, while “Down to the Subway” and “So Lonely Was the Ballad” push the limitations of Jamie's rudimentary sampler. His knack for tenderness and bile come together beautifully on “Sheila,” an anthem for a generation of gutter-punk romantics.
