One of two double-LPs ever issued by Immediate (the other was the Small Faces compilation The Autumn Stone), The Best of Chris Farlowe's 24 songs encompassed much of what Immediate had already released and assembled on single-platter albums (or soon would). Ranging across his hit singles, EP tracks, and LPs, it was a more-than-decent profile but also a bit confusing amid the other Farlowe albums out there that contained many of the same tracks. Farlowe's Rolling Stones covers are here, along with many of his American soul sides (but not his version of "Reach Out I'll Be There"), and a few lesser cuts as well. Mostly superseded on CD by Out of Time: The Immediate Anthology.

Chris Farlowe always seemed destined for great things as a singer -- and based on the company he kept on-stage and the people he worked with in the mid-'60s, he did succeed, at least on that level. Born John Henry Deighton in Islington, North London, in 1940, he reached his early teens just as the skiffle boom was breaking in England, and was inspired by Lonnie Donegan to enter music.
