While soon to be involved in the new supergroup Super Heavy, featuring Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart and Damien Marley, Stone teams up with Stewart for a look at the real Stone at last. Stone is an intense British soul singer who has flirted with modern R&B. However, she is at heart a classicist and with Stewart carefully guarding the arrangements, LP1 is a beautiful capturing of Stone’s raw vocal talents. “Karma,” with a juicy tight funk, pumps like it’s 1973, electric keyboards adding just the right amount of nightclub sleaze. “Newborn” delivers its message starting with acoustic guitar and building to a full-band blowout.
