Album Review

Freelance Bubblehead heralds the debut of the appealingly offbeat pop/rap trio 1000 Clowns. The album is consistently bouncy and upbeat, with songs about the group's cat ("Kitty Kat Max"), chasing girls and having fun. Quirky lyrics and song titles like "Everybody Smells So Different" and "(Not the) Greatest Rapper" abound, backed up by cheeky grooves and pop hooks. Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato drops in to man the board on a few tracks, and adds to the album's sunny, laid-back vibe.
