Album Review

Life of Riley's debut CD is a blend of melodic alternative CCM and hard rock. It's an amiable, spiritual album. It's got a certain nostalgic flair to it, and sounds more like it was released in the late '90s than 2006; comparisons to Matchbox Twenty are unavoidable. There's a sense that this album has already been made, a few times, a few years ago. Still, Days Away from Life isn't completely void of sustenance. Crunchy guitars and a shattering guitar solo give depth to "Feel" and melodic guitar hooks make Cassidy Campbell's passé croon almost bearable on "Collide." Days Away from Life is a fine start and the band has talent; unfortunately, the heyday for adult alternative pop/rock has long since passed.

Alternative rock outfit Life of Riley came into being around two brothers, Cassidy and Brice Campbell. Based out of Houston, TX, the duo had toured for several years throughout the country playing together at clubs and large Christian youth events before heading down to Memphis in 2003 to independently record an album.
