Album Review

Jon Gibson is one of Christian Contemporary Music's most talented vocalists, but his vibrant Stevie Wonder imitiation is wasted here on some very bland 1980s-style dance music. Drum machines pound away earnestly throughout, and cheap keyboards try their hardest to sound something like Michael Jackson's "Beat It." There are a few exceptions: "God Loves a Broken Heart" is a catchy single in the vein of Wonder's mid-'80s hits. "Dreams" is pretty infectious candle-waving inspirational material. "Metal Machine" is a spunky attack on the dehumanization of modern technology and the politicians who promote it. It's too bad the whole album was made with dehumanizing modern technology.
