Album Review

Deas Vail’s sophomore full-length finds the Arkansas-raised Christian rock band borrowing more heavily from indie rock. But even though their amps are bigger, their take on the genre is a charmingly wholesome one, geared for a mainstream audience. Wes Blaylock’s airy falsetto is as sweet as ever and Andy Moore continually keeps things interesting with his jangly guitar parts. Deas Vail definitely has a bit more bite than previous albums or EPs, but the songs are still rich with lush textures, and the sunbleached melodies are often keen and catchy.

The christian rock band Deas Vail (translation: "God's Humble Servant") features the falsetto vocals of Wes Blaylock along with guitarist Andy Moore, drummer Kelsey Harelson, keyboardist Laura Beth Hudson, and bassist Jonathan Childs. Formed in central Arkansas in 2003, the band spent several years on the road before attracting attention from dc Talk's Mark Lee Townsend, who signed the group to his own label, Brave New World Records....
