About God Made Me Funky

A Toronto-based self-proclaimed "nu-funk" collective (as of 2008, the group numbered nine, and that number included Kaybe and Lynzie Kent on vocals, Phatt on raps, Danny Argyle on bass, Cam Dougall on guitar, trumpeter Rich Grossman, Benji Perosin on sax, and Arthur Kerekes on drums), God Made Me Funky were originally an instrumental project that had to take on vocalists in order to add to the band's covers repertoire. Formed in 1996, the group released its first album in 2005. A self-titled affair, it would go on to win some local awards, and the band was able to release its follow-up, We Can All Be Free, in 2007. The singles from the follow-up were radio hits, and the band scored a nomination for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards ceremony. ~ Chris True
