Biography

As part of the Stockholm-based trio Peter Bjorn and John, singer/guitarist Peter Morén helped craft some of the best and most energetic pop to come out of Sweden, or anywhere, in the early 2000s. Over the course of three albums, the band's following grew until it exploded with the release of the worldwide hit single "Young Folks" in 2006. Stepping back from the group and its hectic schedule, Morén began premiering solo material at intimate New York venues in 2007, focusing on music that was considerably more folky and low-key than his work with Peter Bjorn and John. His first solo album, 2008's The Last Tycoon, a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Love of the Last Tycoon, was released in April of 2008 by Quarterstick Records. The record was inspired by thoughts of adolescence and featured artwork from Morén's girlfriend. Morén next returned to his main gig, and after Peter Bjorn and John released their 2009 album Living Thing, he turned up as a member of the mysterious Swedish supergroup Tutankamon. The band, whose self-titled debut album was released in late 2009, featured Morén and Adam Olenius of Shout Out Louds sharing songwriting and vocal duties. After this, he returned to his solo pursuits, releasing an album totally sung in his native language, I Spåren Av Tåren, in 2010. He stayed busy with another Peter Bjorn and John album, Gimme Some, in 2011, and the formation of INGRID, a record label and artistic collective made up of his fellow bandmates, Lykke Li, and members of the Teddybears and Miike Snow. Not content to take any time off, Morén returned in 2012 with his third solo album, Pyramiden. While working on the next Peter Bjorn and John album, he also launched a series of EPs made up of songs from his two Swedish albums with the vocals redone in English. The first of them, Broken Swenglish, Vol. 1, was released by INGRID in late 2013, the second, Broken Swenglish, Vol. 2, was delayed some hard drive issues wiped out some string parts, but eventually was issued in late 2014..
