But their influence isn’t just limited to Malaysia: since their formation in the mid-‘90s, Raihan has frequently been named in The Muslim 500, worked with Yusuf (Cat Stevens) twice and were even visited by Queen Elizabeth II. The group’s instrumentation of Arabic-derived staples like the rebana—mixed with Nusantara tools—makes them unique in the global nasheed scene, but it’s their continued collaborations with hip-hop, rock and pop artists that guarantee their relevance across the larger pop world.
