When Red Velvet do R&B, they do it with a heavy dose of their signature quirk. The title track on their Rookie EP mixes funky basslines, blasts of brass and hooks that get hammered into your head, while "Talk to Me" warps the girl group's vocals over snappy piano production. But the ladies also explore deeper heartbreak, pleading for connection on "Little Little" and on the standout sensual synth jam "Body Talk", making Rookie their most mature release to date.
