Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis star in Vegas, a drama inspired by the true story of former Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a fourth-generation rancher tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas in the 1960s, a gambling and entertainment mecca emerging from the tumbleweeds. Ralph Lamb wants to be left in peace to run his ranch, but Las Vegas is now swelling with outsiders and corruption which are intruding on his simple life. Recalling Lamb's command as a military police officer during World War II, the Mayor appeals to his sense of duty to look into a murder of a casino worker – and so begins Lamb’s clash with Vincent Savino, a ruthless Chicago gangster who plans to make Vegas his own. Assisting Lamb in keeping law and order are his two deputies: his diplomatic, even-keeled brother, Jack, and his charming but impulsive son, Dixon. Ambitious Assistant District Attorney Katherine O'Connell, who grew up on the ranch next to the Lambs, also lends a hand in preserving justice. In Vegas, two powerful men – Lamb and Savino – are engaged in a fierce battle for control of the budding oasis, and for both of them, folding is not an option.

Great show

Pretty disappointed I bought the season and have to wait so long between episodes.

Good show, interesting characters

I'm curious where this is going but this show needs some polishing.
Four stars only until they sort out these little flaws in character development.
Update: After a couple of episodes, I can finally give this show five stars. Very entertaining.

I cannot believe they cancelled this show. Oh boy… :-(

New Age Old West

This show is reminiscent of previous shows set in Vegas …. Crime Story comes to mind. Adding the fading old west flavor to the modern boom town era presents a great canvas on which to paint future episodes. Dennis Quaid as the no nonsense (get 'er done) Sheriff is refreshing in our too politically correct and socially stalled age. Michael Chiklis is the quintessential mob boss. One small criticism, if the year is 1960 it is not a good idea to use vehicles that are two to three years ahead of the time period, not even noticeable by most, but glaring for a car guy like me. Also when are directors going to learn that you cannot drive a car down the road with the automatic transmission in “Park”. I notice this all the time in TV and even Hollywood movies, along with the steering wheels being a quarter of a turn or more off when the vehicle is supposedly going straight. This is very unprofessional and for me detracts from the realism, might as well go back to 50s and 60's special effects. Cannot believe this show was canceled. It only got better. The old stale shows plod on while this gets the ax. They played with the time slot which didn't help either. The TV exects must have gone to the same school as our government leaders, they think they know how to tell what is good for all of us and why we should learn to like it.
