The hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters is back for a second season! June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live. It seems her luck has turned around when she gets hired at a coffee shop and finds Chloe (Krysten Ritter), a charming, vivacious roommate... with the morals of a pirate. She swindles June out of all her savings, but she and her snarky friend, James Van Der Beek (playing himself), soon learn that, just because June's naïve, she isn't stupid. June ingeniously turns the tables on Chloe, who is so shocked about being scammed herself that she decides to pull June into her colorful band of friends. Excellent Comedy, But A Bit Overpriced
The first season of "Don't Trust the B(oomerang) in Apt. 23" was, by most accounts, a success.
Krysten Ritter, coming off a head-turning role as Jane Margolis on the outstanding AMC drama "Breaking Bad", absolutely nails the role of Chloe. She's charming and backstabbing, adorable and villainous. Her quirks and sly smile make her the perfect "B(onanza)" for this program.
And it's because Ritter is so outstanding that the rest of the cast seems to be off the mark. Dreama Walker, while certainly eye-candy, seems more aloof and plays the "midwestern-girl-in-a-big-city" as a terrible stereotype.
James Van Der Beek, playing... well... James Van Der Beek, plays an excellent parody of himself. At least I hope it's a parody.
Overall, I recommend "Don't Trust the B(ookmark) In Apt. 23", but the price for a Season Pass seems incredibly high considering the series hasn't been picked up for a full season of 22 episodes. The ratings for this is excellent comedy aren't that high, the cost of $46.99 for HD ($31.99 for SD) is a bit steep, which could lead to this series being cancelled at any time.
Pick up the first season (7 episodes), and if you think it's worth the investment, then go ahead and get the season pass. I, however, will be waiting until ABC announces a full-season pickup.
I give this series 4 stars. It's a keeper!
