The landmark 12-hour miniseries that changed the face of television is now available on iTunes. Based on Alex Haley's Pulitzer Prize-winning book about his own ancestors, this historic programming event — still the highest-rated miniseries in TV history — is a stirring, sweeping saga of one family's unforgettable struggle over many generations to survive slavery and regain freedom. In 1750, slave traders abduct the proud African warrior Kunta Kinte (LeVar Burton) and a new American story begins. Forged in blood, sweat, and tears, a dream of freedom sustains Kunta and his descendants through more than a century of hardship and oppression. Cicely Tyson, Edward Asner, John Amos, Louis Gossett Jr., Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Uggams, and Ben Vereen, among others, also star in this groundbreaking historical epic. Providing eloquent witness to the indomitable human spirit, this internationally acclaimed series reveals untold cultural riches to all of humanity from one man's personal family history. Roots changed TV and society
I can't believe I'm seeing this on iTunes! Great job on whoever decided to add it. Roots was a major event on TV in the 70's. It is a great story in American history that most people wanted to forget or overlook but it's something that needed to be addressed. Roots changed the way African American history was taught at my school. Alex Haley wrote a beautiful and compelling story about his family's history. This is a must see mini series!
Two thumbs way up!!
This is one of those shows you just can't miss. It was a major turnining point in the african/american culture. When I saw this show in school I was shocked what those people went through. Roots tells the truth about slavery. As soon as I found out this show was on itunes I downloaded it. I give this show five stars. But that still doesn't make up for the years of torture those families went through.
Okay, you guys are officially the ish!
I am absolutely floored that this is now available on itunes. I applaud you for placing this groundbreaking, history of AMERICA on itunes. Everyone needs to purchase and keep this for their library so that we will never forget. Bravo Itunes!
