Enjoyable if predictable
Really enjoyed this show -- pretty much watched all the episodes of Seasons 1 & 2 back-to-back - it captures the extended family that gay men can and do create with their friends. It is funny and touching if, at times a bit trite. As a white man, the color of the characters makes little difference vis-a vis identifcation with the characters but it is satisfying to see people of color represented for once since in the media they are so often pushed out of sight: if you only watched the mainstream media then you would think that every gay man is white and a lawyer or some other such profession. My only caveat is that the strorylines -- as with most 22 minute shows -- are often predictable. With only 22 or so minutes to wrap up the immediate storyline this is as much a function of the form as the show itself -- but it would be nice if you didn't know exactly what would happen next. Take the last available episode "Under Pressure" - it was obvious Wade would come to Noah's rescue and I have been waiting for the what seems-to-be-required gay-bashing. The minute Noah pulls up to the pump you know he's going to get hurt since we don't normally see him engaged in such mundane chores. That said the show has tastefully handled some issues, especially the positive/negative HIV love story line and the emotional upheaval it can cause -- but while the emotional part was handled well and somewhat realistically the doctor is a bit underwriitten and anything that impies that HIV is now a manageable disease and negates that people are still dying daily needs a ways to go. Despite my criticisims this is an addictively enjoyable show with a nice range of characters and the heart of the show - the friendships between these gay men - is what makes it so.
Off to a Good Start
After watching the second season's premiere episode, I'm convinced that LOGO has a hit on its roster of series. They would be crazy if they were not to continue on with the show.
I have nothing in common with the show except being gay
I really have nothing in common with the characters except that I'm gay. If this is close to a snapshot of another section of the Gay culture than it's probably the best I've seen in a long while. For this middle aged middle class white guy it very good- say what you want about butch or fem. The show is entertaining and my black married 20 something Mom co-worker has just gotten hooked. There is something about this show that is much more than they are black Gay guys.
