Description

In the first chapter of the series that started a cultural phenomenon, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy project humanity into the 23rd century with compassion, boldness, and a curiosity to meet the unknown. For more than 40 years, viewers hungry for optimism have found inspiration from Gene Roddenberry's visionary allegory, hooked on the thought-provoking moral tales, the humor, the romance, the philosophy, and the inspired gadgetry aboard the first U.S.S. Enterprise. Now these remastered adventures look and sound even better than ever, with dozens of new and higher-detailed visual effects that blend seamlessly into the episodes you fondly remember.

Best of Both Worlds!

What can I say? It's the Original Series as we know and love it but with revemped effects. The whole thing came about because of the wish to release Star Trek on HD (which will happen later this year as well as regular dvd). The effects did not hold up in HD so an idea that had already suggested before was realized. The result is a crisp looking print (the best part of the remaster) and a few fun new effects here and there in each episode. Star Trek as Roddenbaerry himself would have loved to have seen it! p.s. glad to see that apple has sorted out the remasters and I am honered to be writing the first review.

Remastered, Not Reinvented

These episodes shine with the new HD finish and CGI SPFX. If you've never been a fan of TOS because of the "cheesy effects" now is the time to give one a whirl. I'd recommend "Where No Man Has Gone Before" or "The Corbomite Maneuver" to indoctrinate yourself. Enjoy!

Brilliant Television

They did so much with so little! Roddenberry was a visionary. He was a stubborn writer/producer that would stay up all night typing script changes (on a manual typewriter). He and his wonderful wife, Majel Barrett, fought for every idea. Thank goodness they did. The results were fine stories often with sensitive social parallels. The cast was a group of hungry character actors who had no idea where their next gig would be, or how long this very low budget show would take them. It didn't matter-- they acted their hearts out despite their personal differences. The cast had to imagine the limited special effects during shooting. The studio had Star Trek on a tight budget. Scenes had to be shot in quick order to make the daily schedule. Special effects were shoe-string. Still, the end result was magic. The sets, costumes and makeup were colorful and well done. The stories and acting were so superb that kids like me who caught the series in syndication in the early 80's actually felt like we were on the Enterprise. In many ways, there has never been another sci-fi series that has out done the original Star Trek series. The remastering looks to be very thoughtfully done so as not to take over the story. And the episodes are LONG-- 50 minutes each. A great value-- unlike today where commercials are almost as long as show. This is brilliant television!
