German teknotika that uses a sampler to sound like an old tape machine, Andre Abshagen and Achim Treu layer decades of lounge muzak on their debut album. The results are a rather messy and confused mixture of analog bubbles, stunted beats, and international pop vocals. "Bitte Gehen Sie Weiter" uses a bare disco beat to accompany the pop German lyrics, alleged to be humorous by those who can speak the language, while hip-hop beats and electro-vocal distortions are in direct conflict with the bossa breakdown and accordion melody on "VH-1." The latter showcases the problem with such smarmy lounge undertakings. Elements can collide as often as they mesh. "My Mailbox Is an Echo Chamber" makes the same mistake, creating a dub-reggae track constructed from exotic analog synths and samples. But the worst offender is "...& Weiter," a travesty of style that attempts to sound like Stereolab with a drum'n'bass beat. Just because two things can be put together doesn't always mean they should be put together. Dauerfisch seems to have few ideas beyond the random pairing of styles that might click with the hipster contingent.
