About Joyce Yang

Pianist Joyce Yang began studying music at four years of age, and entered the School of Music of the Korea National University of Arts at age ten to study with Choong Mo Kang. She moved to the United States in 1997, and studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky at the Juilliard School in the pre-college division. In 2005, Yang won the silver medal in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She graduated from Juilliard and won the school's Arthur Rubinstein Prize in 2010, as well as the William A. Petschek Piano Recital Award in 2011. She toured the United States between 2007 and 2008, and performed with the New York Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded for Avie, Harmonia Mundi, Albany Records, and Foghorn Classics. ~ Blair Sanderson
