iTunes Review

On 1989, Ryan Adams offers a track-by-track reinterpretation of Taylor Swift’s chart-topping 2014 album. The result is as intimate as it is disarming. Adams presents Tay-Tay’s explosive pop hooks with an air of graceful melancholy, using acoustic guitars and reverb-soaked vocals to add heartbroken emotion to familiar hits like “Shake It Off,” “Bad Blood,” and "Blank Space.” Still, the most satisfying moments on Adams’ version of 1989 are the deep cuts from Swift’s original release, including the dusky glow of “Out of the Woods” and chiming guitars of “Wildest Dreams.”

This Love

Is my favorite.

I'm not the biggest Taylor fan but 1989 is definitely a pretty great and catchy album and I can't picture anyone really topping it. And tho I can't say Ryan's covers top all of Taylor's (tho some are pretty fantastic) I love how much of a different vibe this album has. It's a winner to me. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Too good!

Covers are ridiculously hard to get right, much more so to record a whole album. Adams does it absolutely correct by changing the tone of most of Ms. Swift's already fantastic pop hits to give them new, different life. Each new interpretation is fantastic.

Regardless of how listeners feel about T. Swift, this project can stand up on its own, and should be given a fair chance. Who knows, it might even change a few minds about the original album.

Not good, ruining Taylor's masterpiece.

Genre: Rock

Mixing the heartfelt angst of a singer/songwriter with the cocky brashness of a garage rocker, Ryan Adams is at once one of the few artists to emerge from the alt-country scene to achieve mainstream commercial success and the one who most strongly refused to be defined by the genre, leaping from one spot to another stylistically while following his increasingly prolific muse. Adams was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1974. While country music was a major part of his family's musical diet...
