Album Review

Crystal Waters' edition of 20th Century Masters is, like many entries in the series, essentially a greatest hits, and, in many senses, it's every bit as good as the 1998 collection The Best of Crystal Waters, since it contains all the singles that most listeners could want. And while that collection has a different, possibly more listenable track selection, this is still very good and very enjoyable, and nearly interchangeable with that collection. It all depends on what track listing seems more enticing, or what price seems more enticing.

Queen of House

Many may disagree but loyals fans can't, Crystal Waters is the Queen of House. With club anthems such as 'Makin' Happy', '100% Pure Love', and of course the infamous, mega hit, 'Gypsy Woman' it is no wonder that this pioneer deserves the title of 'Queen of House'. Long live the Queen and her fantastic compilation!

this collection is absolutely essential for those fans of late 80s and early 90s house. Crystal Waters talent has been completely overlooked, but that's how it is with most great artists. Sadly iTunes for whatever reason hasn't been able to secure the rights to "You Turn Me On", which is why this album is partial. Hopefully they'll be able to put that song on here.

Some of the BEST All-Time Dance Songs!

O.K., so Crystal Waters knows how to make us move! She proved that with her first hit, "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)", which had a groove you could move to, a serious message to care about the homeless, (seriously), and that tagline, "Ladadee Ladada, Ladadee Ladada". Great stuff! Still, my all-time favorite dance song, EVER, to dance in a club to is "100% Pure Love!" No other songs gets me out on the dance floor, kicking my heels up! It's the best!!! Other great dance-to tunes are "In de Ghetto", "Ghetto Day", talk about GHETTO!, and also "Good Lovin'." Get these songs and go out clubbing, or at least stomp those heals and move those duck booties around your room!

A New Jersey vocalist who majored in computer science at Howard, Crystal Waters had one of 1991's surprise left-field hits with "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)." The song had both a potent message and wonderful vocal that smartly mixed anger, irony, and humor. None of Waters' other songs were quite that inspired, but her debut LP, Surprise, got...
