Album Review

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Oingo Boingo gathers 11 of Danny Elfman's quirky new wave group's definitive tracks, including "Weird Science," "Dead Man's Party," "Wild Sex (In the Working Class)," and "Just Another Day." The band's busy, bouncy sound is also exemplified by "Grey Matter," "Only a Lad," and "Just Another Day," all of which can be found on the more complete Anthology. However, this collection contains enough of their hits and different periods in their career to make it worthwhile for casual listeners.

Got to love the Elf

I've been a fan of Danny Elfman for years, and only a few years ago did I find out about Oingo Boingo. It was another few years until I actually bought an album, not knowing which album to buy I got this one and I do love every song on it. Weird Science is just great, We Close Our eyes is beautiful and Dead Man's Party is fun, no pun intended. Great Album, but I don't know if it is missing anything since I am still new to the Oinging and Boinging

Miss these guys

Ok, so Danny Elfman is a huge musical talent writing for every t.v. show and movie out there. He is talented to say the least, but I miss Oingo Boingo. Their music was incredibly interesting. The arrangments of horn sections, guitars, drums etc. Danny really knew how to make it all connect. But this album is not the best. If you want a real Best of then but BEST O BOINGO. It has everything. But if you want to hear it all then just purchase all their albums because they all rock.

refried boingo

This band will not dissappoint those who love the 80's music. Their songs, even before Elfman stormed Hollywood with composing music was featured in various feel good and party movies of the 80's. The lyrical and musical substance rates higher than many of the 80's band, even introducing a dark flair without being dark musically. The darkness of the lyrics often clashes with the music, which is very uplifting and dancy. Out of the many bands I onced loved in the 80's, this band is one of a dozen who I've kept listening to. Their albums are hits and misses, as with many bands. A good place to start is Deadman's Party, and even the best of hits. There is enough there to give you a good enough feel for the band, which may or may not inspire you to seek out more.

Formed: 1977 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s

Although Oingo Boingo was often compared to Devo throughout their career (due to both bands' affinity for quirky new wave, goofy stage acts, and most obviously, peculiar yet intriguing band names), Oingo Boingo never obtained the mainstream success that Devo did. But the band did manage to obtain a large and devoted fan base, especially in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA. Oingo Boingo started not as a traditional group per se, as they were originally put together in the '70s by movie director Richard...
