Editors’ Notes

Clocking in at more than half an hour, "Tab . . . 25" is the ultimate Monster Magnet track. It’s the purest expression of the group’s psychedelic space rock, with a hypnotic rhythm that stops time. It’s perfect for a black-light party. By song's end, it sounds like the apocalypse has occurred—a powerful head experience, though very much a side trip for the group. The guitars freak out while Dave Wyndorf sings under the mix and speaks in what sounds like tongues. "Longhair" is relatively short at only 12 and a half minutes. Alongside the band's garage rock–to–Hawkwind origins, it highlights the band's fierce drummer, Jon Kleiman, as well as guitarist John McBain's interest in the wah-wah pedal. "Lord 13" is a conventional four-minute tune that still features all the hallmarks of the MM sound. Though considered an EP due to its low number of tracks, Tab . . . is nearly an hour with the addition of the bonus live-bootleg-quality version of "Spine of God," the title track from MM’s debut album.

Great, if different, Monster Magnet

This is one of the more interesting releases from the magnificent Monster Magnet. Wyndorf's song writing is always stupendously absurd, with lyrics usually about comics or his member, but this album abandons that in favor of one long, brilliant piece of mighty stoner-psych rock.

It'd definetly a cool release to check out, but there isn't really ever a time when I want to listen to a song thats half an hour long.

This album is cosmic, brilliant, and beautiful!
You will not be disappointed!!
Buy it and immerse yourself in the Daviverse!!!

Retro-rock visionaries Monster Magnet spent much of the 1990s struggling against the prejudices imposed upon image and sound by alternative rock fashion nazis. In fact, it wasn't until that movement's late-'90s decline that the band's dogged persistence finally paid off and their fourth album, Powertrip, catapulted to gold sales status on the strength of its massive hard rock hit "Space Lord." In the meantime, Monster Magnet had managed to become one of the most successful and influential bands associated...
