Returning to touring in 1976 after a much-needed hiatus, the Dead closed out 1977 with a string of hometown concerts that found them pumping on all cylinders. They weren't only unleashing mid-'70s pieces like the complex "Terrapin Station" and the jazzy "Eyes of the World" with streamlined sophistication; they also dug into deep grooves on tracks like "They Love Each Other" and rocked out with infectious abandon on hard-charging takes of "Sugar Magnolia" and "Not Fade Away."
