This thrilling program also introduces us to his charming obsession with hourglasses—Nyman’s deeply hypnotic “Time lapse” emerges from Philip Glass’ undulating, unsettling music from The Truman Show, “Raising the Sail.” Striking études by Szymański and Schumann’s incredible variations on the Allegretto from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 complete a complex, nourishing musical journey.
