iTunes Review

A modern R&B superstar heavily influenced by R. Kelly, Avant came out of Cleveland in 2000, hitting the scene with his hugely successful debut album, My Thoughts. Bolstered by several big singles, it easily went platinum, as did its follow-up LP, Ecstasy. Originally released in 2006, Director is Avant's fourth album. Unlike the previous ones, it's front-loaded with marquee guest artists, including Lil Wayne (the single "You Know What"), Lloyd Banks ("Exclusive"), and The Pussycat Dolls ("Stickwitu"). As usual, Avant's highly emotional crooning shines through. The production (from Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, and Bryan Michael Cox) provides a low-impact backdrop for his songs about love, lust, and the ups and downs of true romance. While it's nothing groundbreaking or exceptionally original, there are plenty of solid tunes here ideal for bedroom soundtracks. Check out "Mr. Dream" (with Pharrell Williams), "Now You Got Someone," and "4 Minutes."

Yes, Yes, Y-E-S!!

I've been in high anticipation of this album, "Director", and now it's finally here. It's truely amazing to see Avant's rise across the R&B world, and this album distinctly puts him up there with the R&B elite. Great album!

Granted Avant is an amazing R&B artist that has definitely left his footprints on the industry, this album might be his best album. I'm actually surprised with the quality of almost every song, and the mix between slow-love songs and some tight fast-paced ones. GOTTA COP the WHOLE ALBUM! -Jesse

Avant does it again

There is no doubt that Avant is the man when it comes to R&B. This cd is amust have for any true R&B fans. I was lucky to see him live in Chi-town two summers ago with Ginuwine and Joe, and Avant stole the show.

Hailed as the "new voice of ghetto soul" and the first act signed to basketball great Magic Johnson's Magic Johnson Music, Cleveland native Avant (born Myron Avant) debuted in 1998 with the song "Separated," released on Payton Entertainment -- the label operated by his manager, Eric Payton. The single received airplay on top-rated Chicago radio station WGCI prior to being selected for inclusion on the 1999 MCA compilation Summer Heat. This set the stage for the May 2000 release of Avant's debut album,...
