About Traedonya

A Bronx resident since the age of eight, soul siren Traedonya fell in love with hip-hop because of Run-D.M.C.. When hip-hop legend Pumpkin heard the 13-year-old rapping, he introduced her to Aaron Fuchs, who released her first single, "Do the Boogaloo," on his own Tuff City in 1986. She later spent time working with X-Clan and as the lead singer for Sample This!, who had a self-titled album released in 1993 by Elektra. After the band imploded, Traedonya studied jazz with Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Chico Hamilton, and Reggie Workman. Combining her jazz and hip-hop background with funk and house music, Traedonya debuted her new sound on the single "Beloved," released in 2003 by Prohibition. ~ David Jeffries
