Deadmau5 Dubsteps in the Right Direction

Deadmau5 is one the key DJ's, along with Daft Punk and David Guetta, that is helping electro and house music transition from underground to mainstream. At the peak of his popularity, deadmau5 has made an interesting choice with 4x4=12. The mau5 has moved away from the smooth trance style that made him big. 4x4=12 is an experimental album that falls under the hardcore, underground British subgenre known as Dubstep. Although 4x4=12 is a radical departure for deadmau5, it undoubtedly delivers. All of the beats are crazy, and the flow is flawless. The mau5 has mastered Dubstep and managed to include some of his signature style on songs like Raise Your Weapon and Some Cords. However, 4x4=12's lack of versatility may bother many listeners. Even though the tracks on this album are too hardcore to dance to, they are great for listening. If deadmau5 doesn't return to his signature style after this album, he will be dethroned. 4x4=12 will only appeal to some people. Yes, this album is impressive, but it is not on the level of Random Album Title. Let's hope that when the mau5's next album drops, it is filled with the style that made deadmau5 mega-popular.

Its Good

Just listened to it.... Its really good, just buy it, you won't be disappointed. You probably knew this before reading this though. Deadmau5 makes sick music, and this is no exception, amazing album.

Kind of disappointed

To be honest, I was very excited for this album. I have been a long time deadmau5 fan, and some of the songs from this album, such as Some Chords and Sofi Needs a Ladder, are fantastic. However, upon hearing the other songs in the album, I was very disappointed. I understand artists desire to move in new directions, and I enjoy seeing an artist mix it up and create something fresh. This is just not very good, though. Dubstep has never been deadmau5's style and, personally, he executes it very poorly. Deadmau5 is one of the leaders in electro and progressive house, and it shuold stick that way. Even the electro tracks in this album sound very repetitive and uninspired. Luckily, Wolfgang Gartner is taking tips from deadmau5's old stuff. He is going to be one to watch.
