Not recommended for fans of their previous work

With this album, Hot Hot Heat has dramatically overhauled their sound, moving away from their uptempo, quirky, incredibly fun dance-punk-pop-whatever that was found on Elevator and Make Up the Breakdown. The new album is a more straightforward affair, pretty standard rock music. If you want an idea of the distinction between their new sound and their old, note how much "5 Times Out of 100" sticks out -- that's a remake from an earlier release, and it's noticeable (and noticeably superior to the pap on the rest of the album). I'm sure this album will find many fans but as a longstanding fan of this band I am -HUGELY- disappointed in this utterly bland, ordinary album.

Great album

There are some great songs on this album. The Best: Outta Heart The 2nd Best: Give Up? The Great: Happiness LTD, Waiting for Nothing, Let Me In, So So Cold. The Pretty good: Harmonicas & Tambourines, My Best Fiend, Good Day to Die The Worst: 5 Times Out of 100, Conversation Outta Heart is seriously the best song on the album. And the album takes a few listens to really get into. The first listen is mediocre but the next few listens get progressively better and now I think its an awesome album. If you have listened to Arcade Fire, you know what I'm talking about.

poor us

make up the breakdown and elevator were both very good, and different from eachother. happiness ltd is different from both of those, and not exactly great. this album is very mainstream, middle of the road. if you listen to it a few times, you may enjoy the tracks just out of pure recognition. i doubt anything will grab you as great music the first listen through.

Beginning as a noisy, synth-based combo in 1999, Victoria, British Colombia's Hot Hot Heat evolved into an aggressively catchy indie rock band two years later, when keyboardist Steve Bays took on the vocal duties, and guitarist Dante DeCaro joined their ranks. The group's new lineup -- which also featured founding members Paul Hawley on drums and Dustin Hawthorne on bass -- brought a newfound sense of melody and witty wordplay to their music, which they debuted on their 2002 EP Knock Knock Knock....
