The 2012 action comedy Super Zeroes is about loser hillbilly brothers and their intellectually challenged roommate gaining superpowers in their small rural town. So it only makes sense for the accompanying soundtrack to be full of tongue-in-cheek country and hip-hop songs. John Anderson & Colt Ford open with “Swingin’,” a twangy rap single crafted especially for the film. Montgomery Gentry follows with “I Like Those People,” an homage to country bumpkins performed with ample help from Charlie Daniels and Randy Owen. Kottonmouth Kings recall early-'90s Cypress Hill with “Still Blowing Smoke Rings,” a heady hip-hop homage to outlaw horticulture rhymed with a nasal inflection that tips its flat-brim Flexfit hat to B-Real. Blackberry Smoke deviates from the novelty songs with “One Horse Town,” a wistful Americana ballad elegantly laced in pedal steel, vintage pump organ drones, twangy Telecaster tones, and high-lonesome vocal harmonies. The alt-funk band Space Capone puts the festivities back in swing with “Cake,” an anthemic party-rock jam replete with gang vocals and scorching guitar leads worthy of hoisting a Zippo.
