iTunes Review

The first single from Brad Paisley's acclaimed 5th Gear is a playfully romantic ditty with a catchy chorus about grooming a loved one for blood sucking parasites. "Ticks" climbed to #1 on the country music single charts before the album was even released, but it was the side splitting "Online" that shifted 5th Gear into overdrive with help from Seinfeld's Jason Alexander working behind (and in front of) the camera for the song's hilarious video. The wistfully nostalgic ballad "Letter to Me" soon replaced both songs on top of the charts and Paisley's impassioned duet and harmonies with Carrie Underwood on "Oh Love" showcased his impressive vocal range, further propelling 5th Gear into the nomination ballots. Paisley won Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2007 CMA Awards, along with a Video of the Year award for "Online." 5th Gear also yielded Paisley's first GRAMMY award when the Buck Owens/Don Rich inspired "Throttleneck" won the 2008 award for Best Country Instrumental.

Awesome

Brad Paisley is my favorite country artist. "I'm Still A Guy" is my all time favorite song by him, and it makes me laugh. My mom likes him too, and he's just great to listen to. He makes me happy. Just a great album, 'nuff said.

My introduction to country

Brad Paisley was my introduction to the modern-Country music scene, and "5th Gear" was the album that did it for me. My wife (fiancee at the time) made me listen to it, and she always had the country station on in the car. The album starts out great with five hits in a row, my personal favorite being the opener "All I Wanted Was A Car". My other favorites are "Mr. Policeman" and "Better Than This". I listen to "Mr. Policeman" when I am driving in a hurry lol. Paisley is an excellent lyricist - clever, funny, witty, thoughtful, and romantic - and even better guitarist. I think he'll become one of the legends of this generation.

Arguably the preeminent male country artist to emerge in the 2000s, Brad Paisley cannily blended the past with the present, paying constant tribute to his forefathers — when he reached the top of the charts, he still found space for Little Jimmy Dickens and George Jones in his videos — but pushing the music forward into the new millennium, expanding its sonic and thematic possibilities. This sense of adventure could be heard on 2009's American Saturday Night, a big-hearted and eclectic...
