EDITORS’ NOTES

Legendary studio drummer Steve Gadd’s credits range from James Brown to Paul Simon, Steely Dan to Kate Bush. Here on his second album with his jazz quintet, Gadd’s tasty beats set the tone for these groove-laden originals—think John Scofield and/or MMW—with his best drum riffage coming on the funky “Sly Boots” and the tricky “Foam Home.” Several band members contribute originals with the soulful “Duke’s Anthem” also being a highlight. The band also do a rocking version of Jan Hammer’s “Oh Yeah?” and cover “Freedom Jazz Dance" (and throw in other Eddie Harris licks as well).

Gadd’s Best

Jazzbeard

This is the rare album that could appeal equally to fans of pop-jazz, straight-ahead jazz or fusion. I’d even play it for anybody who says they hate jazz. It’s Gadd’s best as a leader, which is saying something since I consider his “Gadd Gang” album to be a classic. Best jazz album of the year to date. The title nails it. At 70 years young, Steve Gadd is stronger than ever.

Don’t get no better

These cool cats may be old but there not cold……they are RED HOT! 70 strong brings it all the way from the woodshed to the listening ear, I’m so thrilled that SG put this band together and both projects Gadditude and 70 Strong deliver the goods worth every penny spent, looking forward to many more projects to come.

70 Strong

Cube-one

This is one of the best jazz albums I have ever heard. These musicians knows what people like. It is a combination of “old school” with a new flavor. Every single piece of music on the album is fantastic and very enjoyable.
