Back To Love

Back To Love

Beth Nielsen Chapman is a sincere, intelligent singer-songwriter who deals with affairs of the heart with a maturity that plays itself out in her extremely balanced performances where each note is placed and played with perfection. This doesn’t mean she is overtly slick, though she is seamless. “More Than Love” has the sound of an adult-contemporary pop song that could easily slip into the playlist of a modern folk station to great acclaim. But the more interesting aspects of her music reside in the quirky shuffle of “I Can See Me Loving You” and the naked forthrightness of the piano and strings of “I’ll Give My Heart.” It’s no coincidence that five of the album’s song titles use the word “love” in their titles. Chapman’s dedication is to being true to her own adult romanticism. “Peace” is another one of her timeless pleas for hope, tolerance and acceptance. There are no shocking moments here, nothing done to deliberately titillate or grab headlines. Just confident, assured music from a talented singer who knows only how to be sincere.
