iTunes Review

A hugely important and influential label based in Englewood, N.J., Sugar Hill was founded by Joe and Sylvia Robinson and struck gold right off the bat. Its first single was the 1979 release "Rapper's Delight," credited to The Sugarhill Gang. The most crucial early hip-hop song, it propelled rap music onto the radio and into the hearts and minds of an entire generation of listeners. Though The Sugarhill Gang was pretty much a manufactured group handpicked by Sylvia, others on the label included New York O.G.s like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Treacherous Three, Funky Four Plus One, and Sequence, among others. For the first half of the '80s, Sugar Hill was basically the top choice for DJs and fans, and this extensive 56-track mix features all its signature hits, as well as a nice collection of dope but relatively unknown obscurities. Everything here is outstanding, but don't miss "The Message," "Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel," "Beat Street," "White Lines," "Apache," "XMas Rap," "New York New York," and "All Night Long (Waterbed)."

Hey I-tunes...I only want the Sequence single " Funk you up", not trying to pay $27.00 for an album. Get it together please.

Will ya Stop Crying Already

$28 is not that much when you consider you're getting 56 tracks of "classic" hiphop, that averages 5 minutes per song. Some may have paid up to $14 for a cd with 12 tracks you do the math...

Good album but..

Where's "Disco Dream" by Mean Machine?
