iTunes Review

Guided By Voices’ seventh album is a cornucopia of Who-style song-sketches played with the attention span (and beer budget) of a few old friends in a musty garage. Bringing the sprawl of their earlier albums into serious focus, Bee Thousand fits 20 songs into 37 minutes—a hooky, imaginative, and charmingly rough-around-the-edges experience. Despite their nerdy, obscure subject matter, the band’s songs can be surprisingly touching: Check out “I Am a Scientist,” which turns its conceit into a parable about the world.

best album!

I think this is the best GBV album ever! Alien Lanes is great, but nothing is better than a mix of Hardcore UFO's, Buzzards and Dreadful Crows, Tractor Rape Chain, Goldheart, Hot Freaks, Smothered in Hugs, Yours To Keep, Echos Myron, Gold Star, and I am a Scientist

This is the greatest album of the 90's. Great sound, Great songs, and plenty of them. And i just have to tell 'Mr. Sweet' that Robert Pollard didn't write 'Aweful Bliss', Tobin Sprout did.

After recording six self-released albums between 1986 and 1992, the Dayton, Ohio-based band attracted a handful of fans within the American indie rock underground. With the 1994 release of Bee Thousand, the group became an unexpected alternative rock sensation, winning positive...
