Now You're Free

As a long, long time listener of Matthew Mayfield, I have been waiting for this full length for quite a while. About half the songs have been released before, but they've been updated and I really like the newer versions. Some are only slightly different and none are complete changes, for instance I really dig the new drum beats in Fire Escape and there are some different guitar effects on Man-Made Machines which give it an even grittier feel, which I didn't think was possible - it's awesome! MM's voice is very clear on this album as well - some of his earlier EP's were a little more growl-y and this album keeps that feel but you can understand the lyrics better - which is one of the greatest things about MM - there is some real depth to him. In preparation for this release, 1 week ago I started listening to all of his stuff on repeat and it felt like I was having a conversation with an old friend - I know that reeks of some very stinky cheesiness, but that's what MM's music is like. I truly hope this album hits the mainstream - so that more and more people can know about MM and be impacted by his raw emotions, truth, grittiness, and passion. Although, it's been pretty cool to be part of a group of a "cult" following of sorts. I saw MM in concert in an old beat up theater and it was just him and an acoustic and about 30 people - I've seen giants like Metallica, DMB, and Jack Johnson and that MM show has to be one of my favorite. Shoot, by the album already!.

The Southern Gentleman Outdoes Himself Yet Again

Through numerous EP's and countless live shows, Matt Mayfield has set himself apart from his singer/songwriter/face-melting-rocker counterparts by continually writing and recording songs that not only punch your soul lyrically, but take you to someplace wonderful musically. Now he's gone and done it again. "Now You're Free" is the epitome of the hard work and dedication that Matthew has shown over the years. Though there have been trials and tribulations, Matthew has survived only to be bigger and better on each new project.

"Now You're Free" should tug at the heart-strings of anyone who listens to it.

This album is truly amazing! So much talent and a true artists work of art. I've always been a fan and I love the rock side of Matthew just as much as the acoustic performances I've heard since the days of Moses Mayfield. Thanks for a great album!!!
