iTunes Review

At once sophisticated and primal, adept at both traditional blues and exploratory jazz, this Georgia-bred combo set a high standard of excellence that few acts have matched since. A Decade of Hits 1969-1979 distills the Allmans down to their essence, offering samples both of their improvisational flights and well-honed radio singles. This collection reflects the eclectic output of this hugely influential group during its glory years.

Not a true depiction of the band

I am a huge fan of the Allman Brothers, but this is not the real deal. The Allman Brothers were known for their astronomical epic jams like "Mountain Jam" "You Don't Love Me" and the Fillmore Version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post." If you are completley unfarmiliar to the Allmans, this will give you the wrong experience. I suggest buying LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST. You'll throw this in the trash after hearing that album. This album only has two songs from the first album and three from IDLEWILD SOUTH. You can own the entire two albums on one disc BEGINNINGS for the same price, their best work. You'll get five of these songs on EAT A PEACH which is a must buy album because of "Mountain Jam." One thing about the album is that you can buy songs from BROTHERS AND SISTERS which isn't on itunes, these include: "Wasted Words" "Ramblin' Man" "Southbound" and "Jessica." These are good songs, but the three albums previously mentioned should be listened to first. One last note, all but one of the songs here are from 1969-1973. Only "Crazy Love" from ENLIGHTED ROUGES is from 1979, and it's the worst song of them all.

Best of my Jam albums

I own plenty of jam and southern rock such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Band, Phish, DMB, and much more. This has got to be my best cd purchase of that genre. Amazing songs such as Statesboro Blues, Ramblin Man(a must download), Midnight Rider, Melissa, Blue Sky, and Whipping Post. Buy this album and I promise you will be attached to it like a brother.

Dude, its got all their best songs - Blue sky, Melissa, Jessica, Ramblin' man, Midnight Rider, Ain't waistin' time no more, etc. I can't name a song that should be on here that isn't.

The story of the Allman Brothers Band is one of triumph, tragedy, redemption, dissolution, and more redemption. Since their beginning in the late '60s, they went from being America's single most influential band to a shell of their former self trading on past glories, to reach the 21st century resurrected as one of the most respected rock acts of their era. For the first half of the '70s, the Allman Brothers Band was the most influential rock group in America, redefining rock music and its boundaries....
